Barcelona is the capital of the Catalonia region, situated in the North East of Spain. The city has a very long history, founded over 2000 years ago by Hannibal's father Hamilcar Barca, although legend has it that the mighty Roman god Hercules had a hand in the city's earlier origins. Many Roman ruins are still to be found in the city and in the layout of the historic city centre, known as the Gothic Quarter. Roman walls have also been incorporated into the city's Cathedral, basilica La Seu, a popular visitor attraction.

While Moor occupation has had an influence in Barcelona, like most of Spain, the architecture of the city is mostly associated with Antoni Gaudi, Barcelona's most famous son, whose remarkable Art Nouveau architectural masterpieces are found throughout the city. The most popular Gaudi attraction is the church of the Sagrada Familia. Construction of the building started in 1882 and it is as yet unfinished. Other notable architecture within Barcelona is contained within the mediaeval Gothic Quarter.

As a city in which modernism fits effortlessly with the traditional, Barcelona also has some stunning examples of ultra-modern architecture and developments, much of which houses the city's business and commerce areas. As a major regional capital, Barcelona is home to many multi-national companies and has a large and busy container seaport too. Executive rooms and suites are also available, which are equipped with features for business, including work desks, high speed internet connectivity, and dual line telephones.

These may include swimming pools and gardens and a range of family-oriented services and activities such as children's clubs, dining facilities and entertainment.
